Operational Reporting & Reconciliation

A controlled workflow for validating incoming records, separating data-quality holds from reconciliation differences, and preparing clear review and reporting outputs.

Evidence
Synthetic reconstruction based on a real operational workflow.

Context

Incoming operational records required validation before reconciliation. Data-quality issues needed to be separated from genuine source-to-source differences so review and reporting could remain accurate.

My responsibility

I structured the validation and reconciliation sequence, held invalid records before comparison, separated genuine differences from data-quality issues, and prepared a review-ready output.

Data-quality controls

The controls demonstrated in this case, not a complete data-quality framework.

  2. ValidityNon-numeric valueExampleHeld: 1
  3. UniquenessDuplicate referenceExampleR-1044Held: 1
  4. ConsistencySource A compared with Source BExampleR-1043Amount differences: 5

Control questions

  1. Can this record be trusted?
  2. Can it enter reconciliation?
  3. Does it match across sources?
  4. Why does it differ?
  5. What requires review?

Each stage closes back to its source population before the review output is prepared.

Logic definitions

Valid
Required fields and values are suitable for reconciliation.
Held
A data-quality issue prevents the record from entering reconciliation.
Difference
Both sources contain the record, but one or more compared values differ.
Review item
A held record, genuine reconciliation difference or source-only record requires review.

Key decision

Data-quality holds were separated from reconciliation differences. Invalid records were held before comparison instead of being treated as reconciliation exceptions.

This prevents data-quality problems from distorting the reconciliation result and keeps review categories meaningful.

Amount difference

The source document was checked before correction.

A numerical pattern can suggest a possible transposition, but it is not proof on its own.

Capabilities demonstrated

  • Data-quality control
  • Reconciliation
  • Review classification
  • Review-ready reporting

Analytical boundaries

  • Held records do not enter reconciliation.
  • A numerical pattern may suggest a cause but does not prove it.
  • A reconciliation difference is reviewed against source evidence before correction.

Evidence boundary

This case reconstructs a real operational workflow using synthetic references, dates and values. No employer, client, customer or confidential operational data is shown.
